We’ve missed the Minnesota Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrations in recent years. If you have missed them, too, mark your calendars for some upcoming events.

The National ADA Symposium is in Minneapolis this year. There is a stipend for those who wish to attend. The deadline is March 28, and alas, the news release forwarded to me missed our March print deadline.

The Great Lakes ADA Center in collaboration with the ADA National Network are excited to announce the 2024 National ADA Symposium. The symposium will be taking place virtually May 6-8 and in-person June 9-12.

This year’s in-person National ADA Symposium will be held in Minneapolis. The event will feature 93 sessions on a wide range of topics presented by nationally recognized experts on the ADA and disability issues, including keynotes from the President of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Kimberly Dowdell, and the Director of Accessibility Codes and Standards for United Spinal Association’s Accessibility Services, Marsha Mazz. Visit the in-person National ADA Symposium website to view the event agenda. The In-Person Symposium Registration Deadline is May 25th or when the event is sold-out, whichever comes first.

The Virtual National ADA Symposium will be May 6-8 and will feature 36 sessions covering all areas of the Americans with Disabilities Act presented by nationally recognized experts in issues related to the ADA. The Great Plains ADA Center is also pleased to announce that they are pre-approved American Institute of Architects (AIA) Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) credits. The Virtual Symposium Registration Deadline is close of business on April 26th.

The Great Lakes ADA Center will continue its history of supporting participation and attendance from across our six-state region by providing a limited number of stipends to cover the registration fee for attending either the in-person or virtual Symposium. These stipends are only available to individuals who work and/or reside in the Great Lakes Region (IL, IN, MN, MI, OH and WI)

The deadline to apply is coming up fast. Applications will be accepted through March 29. Email notification to recipients will be made by April 12 to allow selected individuals to meet the registration deadline.

The stipend is only valid for the registration fee to attend the 2024 National ADA Symposium and does not cover any pre-conference events. Individuals are responsible for their travel and personal costs associated with participation in either the in-person or virtual event as well as any pre-conference events they would like to attend.

But if you are in the region, and can make other arrangements for a place to stay if needed, this is a good opportunity.

Applications for the stipend can be completed online.

More information about the stipend program can be obtained by calling 800-949-4232 (V/TTY) between the hours of 8 am – 4:30 pm Central Standard Time.
