In support of Metro Mobility access issues which have resulted from reduced appropriations by the 1991 legislature and from a fare increase approved by the Regional Transit Board (RTB), Governor Arne Carlson requested the RTB Chairman and staff work with him to find a satisfactory and early solution to these concerns.
Governor Carlson met with the RTB Chairman yesterday to begin discussions on alternative ways to buffer the adverse impact that funding and fare changes will have, in particular on eligible low income users.
The governor suggested that RTB team up with the Minnesota Department of Human Services to quickly explore ways in which the two agencies could direct some additional funds to assure rider access for targeted or at-risk users of Metro Mobility transit.
