Housing is Just the Beginning
Executive Director Joe Selvaggio has created an organization which rehabilitates housing for low and moderate income people, manages properties as an “enlightened landlord,” provides jobs selling wholesale and retail surplus merchandise in one location and consumer goods in another. Funding sources include many local corporations, foundations, and individuals.
The energetic creative staff of this agency seem ready to tackle any problem from emergency home repairs to the employment of “harder to employ” people. Summer employment for inner city minority youth and a lending library of tools for neighborhood residents are among their continuing programs.
The program has been in existance for 14 years, has built or rehabed 576 homes, offered 162 co-op units and formed 11 development partnerships. Future plans are expansion in all areas relating to the revitalization of inner city neighborhoods.
